Teaching as a Career in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Teaching in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is primarily done at 3 levels: School, College and University.

To become a teacher in the school level, one has to opt for B.Ed or Bachelor of Education degree which can be done from any recognized colleges or institutes. The completion of the B.Ed degree, makes a student eligible to work as a teacher in the different secondary and higher secondary schools in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. For Nursery and pre school teaching, along with a  graduate degree, a diploma or Certificate in Pre-school teacher education programme of a duration of not less than one year, or B.Ed is required. Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) or Diploma of Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.)  is mandatory for teaching at the primary level.

To become a teacher in the College and University level in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, one do not have to undergo any formal teacher training but have to qualify for National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC). The minimum qualification to apply for NET is a post graduation degree. Qualifying the NET can make students eligible to apply for the post of Lecturer and Assistant Professor etc in Higher Education Institutions in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
